I don't think anything strange has happened. They're real people; we're just not riding along with them this time.

The reason infiltrations look so much like 'us' is a telepathic filter. We don't know enough about how the filter works - or at least, I don't - to be sure if it will still be up for something like that.
I think Thorne-san might be able to explain better.
