[Third day of Spooky Liminal Space]
[A few private parties-- Leonardo, Lupa, Vilari, Phillip, Tick-Tock, and anybody else who happens to know Zoe's got a dead husband back home that the mun can't remember right now-- receive the same or similar message from her a couple days into the second liminal space event.]
So. I know I told you my husband died. I even dropped his name into that Song thing.
Well, he's here. He turned up. And he don't know about the dead thing, guess he comes from some 'verse before that happened. I need you t'not tell him. This place is strange enough without him thinkin' he's dead, too. Think you can do that for me?

Ok, I won't. I'm glad he's here.

[She doesn't even have mixed feelings about it. This might be a horrible place to subject her man to, but he's alive here. Even liminal space and Trumps are better than dead.]
Thanks, Phillip.

[There's a bit of a pause.]
When he is settled, I would like to meet this man.
no subject
[Because Lupa has become important to her, in the past few months. And if she's going to be an officer for his tribe, Wash'd better be at least inducted.]
no subject
[Lupa is excited, half wondering if this will be more tribe. it's true that he doesn't know the man himself, but one of his officers does and vouches for him. It is enough, he thinks.]
no subject
[And she will be at Lupa's room (or wherever he's at) within about ten minutes. With Wash in tow, probably still in his usual loud Hawaiian shirt. It's just part of how he usually looks, so Zoe's given up on trying to make him more presentable than that.
She's smiling, though, and has her fingers twined with her husband's.]
Lupa. This is Wash.
no subject
Hi. Apparently Zoe's been making lots of friends while I've been busy not being here.
no subject
I am honored to meet one of Zoe’s comrades. I am Lupa of the Wolves Tribe.
no subject
Don't know about a lot of friends, but a few good ones. There ain't too many of us in the tribe, now. Less than lived on Serenity.
[Because yes, she's already told Wash she joined this little tribe thing, as one of Lupa's officers.]
no subject
Good to meet you. This whole tribe thing is... new.
no subject
It doesn't appear to be a common thing outside of the Junkyard. I can explain it again, if you want.
[He assumes Zoe has already explained the concepts, of course.]
And my other offers will need to have a say, but I think it is unlikely that you would be barred from joining us.
[Not quite said in as many words is that he completely trusts Zoe's judgement.]
no subject
[She slips an arm around Wash's waist, now, rather than just holding his hand.]
Think we'll prob'ly be fine.
no subject
[Which is pure Kaylee]
Way I see it. Anyone Zoe trusts must be good people.
[It took him a long time to earn public display of affection status like this, after all]
no subject
[Lupa smiles faintly for a moment. His gaze flickers down to her stomach for a moment (the news is still new, but fills him with many emotions, mostly good.]
I vow on my honor to do everything in my power to live up to that trust and expectation.
no subject
[Zoe says it as an aside to her husband, but it's obvious she's actually teasing Lupa, in a fond sort of way, like she might tease River or Kaylee. Ironic, given she's the one who's usually "awful serious".]
I believe you, Lupa. Don't know that you could even do otherwise.
no subject
Well, least that means I don't have to become the serious one.
no subject
[He says that completely straight-faced, until about a second after and then he smiles.]
no subject
[That one ("never!") is said to Wash, and she shakes her head at them both with a chuckle.]
Somebody's learnin' about jokes, looks like, too. Wash, I told you 'bout how folk come here from whole different 'verses. Lupa's was very, very different from ours. They didn't have much in the way of humor.
[Or... anything, really. It's sad to think about, and despite it all, it does seem like getting him out here is better than making him stay in there.]
Keeping it as private as he can on his end
[He really is that happy, too. He knows the bittersweet yet abundant joy of dead loved ones appearing in Liminal Space.]
... does he know about... well, your other news? [A baby is more than just news, but he's trying to be semi-discreet.] Have you told him yet...? I will happily keep it secret until you decide to tell him.
no subject
He seems pretty pleased about it.
[Understatement. He's kind of adorably emotional about it.]
no subject
I am glad to hear it. I had no doubt he would be, given how much you seemed to adore him - and he you, I would suspect. If either of you need anything, simply call me on the Network.
Also, I would not want to impose on your reunion, given that making up for lost time is probably on your mind right now, but... do you think that I might, perhaps, be able to meet him soon? I assume we will need to tell him about our Bond, and what that entails.

When you are able to, ah... disentangle from one another, I will be in the workshop's main area. Meet me there when you are ready.
no subject
[And it won't take her long to get them both presentable again-- they weren't far off from it, anyhow, when she sent this original message-- and to bring her husband out into the common areas again.]
no subject
He gives a friendly wave.]
Hear you're the fellow we have to thank for [he gestures vaguely around himself] all this.
no subject
In a manner of speaking, I suppose, yes. Once I taught myself how to make rooms, I... well, I kept trying to make bigger and bigger ones, in the hopes of eventually creating rooms for everyone. And now I can.
[With a bright smile on his face, he places his hand over his heart and bows.]
It is an honor to meet you, Messere. I have not known your wife for very long, but she is a very close friend nonetheless. You are a very lucky man.
no subject
I'm kinda hopin' I get to pick that skill up eventually, and get out of your hair, in time for when we got a screamin' baby.
Wash, this is Leonardo da Vinci. Don't like goin' by his last name, though. Leonardo, this is Hoban Washburne. Goes by Wash.
no subject
I really am.
[he continues taking in the workshop]
Probably ought to try to figure out some of that myself really. Baby's gonna need a lot.
no subject
[He seems to get the gist of the statement though, and shakes his head.]
It is really no trouble on my account. Until you are able to craft Liminal Space to your whim, as I have, I will happily provide anything you or your child might need. But I will try to teach you, if you are wishing to learn.
You must first both learn to create portals into and out of Liminal Space. When this is done, then you will need to learn to make Liminal items real. Then you will need to learn to make real items of Liminal matter, and then you will be able to craft your own rooms - which I will gladly keep a door open for such a room in the workshop, if you wish to stay close to the other Travelers.
[He pauses to let that all sink in.]
... I know it seems a lot, but I assure you I can teach you step by step.
no subject
You sure can talk a spell, can't you.
[But she says it fondly; it's not like she's not used to talkers. She's married to one.]
I already got the portals part, myself. And I've been workin' on the part where you make stuff in here. Wash's gonna hafta start from scratch, though. Bein' so new, and all.
[She returns that arm around her with one of her own to give him a squeeze.]
no subject
Reckoned this wouldn't be a simple matter to create, really.
[It's an impressive structure, really. That takes some doing]
I've heard about some folk making things real here.
[It was in the context of cake]
Guess I got a lot of learning to do so we can have a soundproof space for little Anything But Hoban.
