The irony of this is astounding

Excuse me... ah, I believe I am using this properly?

My name is Hiroshi Yamane. I thought it prudent to inform the rest of the Travellers that a young man - a Prince, I believe - has been attempting to recruit young men and women to serve as priests and priestesses under the idea that the Goddess Hebe will be able to help resolve this incident. I myself have my doubts, but at the same time I feel that if I allow myself to be recruited, I may be able to better understand what else may be going on beyond what we know of the Titans and the Gods themselves. That said, I admit I am still very new to this, ah, "investigating" process, and if anybody should desire that I look into anything in particular as I work towards this endeavor, I am more than willing to listen to suggestions.

Do you think she may be working with the Titans, or independently of them?

I honestly could not say. She seems to have a high self-worth if she honestly thinks she can affect any sort of change by herself. If an entire pantheon could not alter the course of events, I struggle to see how she could. She could be an agent, or simply attempting to take advantage of the current state of affairs. Either way, the only thing I can do is observe for now.

Or she may simply be as petty and revenge minded as... well, your average Olympian.

Or Titan, for that matter.

We must determine if she's worth more as an ally of humanity than her spite will harm them.

My understanding is Ancient Greece was never short on spite.

Either way, she is less of interest to me than the man recruiting. Somehow, I feel that he is, if not the key to the mystery of this place, then certainly one of them.

They seem to have a bumper crop of it this year. A shame it can't be milled into bread, or that would be one problem solved. And I do so enjoy my bitters.

Has anyone seen this recruiter's face, or indeed knows with certainty that they are a single individual of the male gender?

The recruiter came to me directly. I believe he may be a Prince or someone of high standing, as he was surrounded by an entourage of guards during the ascent up Olympus.

The Prince Kosmas?

That would be him, yes. Sadly, I could not tell you whether he is an Infiltrator or not.

It wouldn't be the first time that the younger generation took over for the one before. It might be she means to indulge in that particular family tradition rather than helping reverse it.

Ah, patricide! The most classic element of classical myths. It would be most satisfying to those who later tell this tale.

Do you happen to know this Hebe, and her role in the pantheon?

She's the goddess of youth. One of the rare Zeus offspring by Hera.

So that would fit the usual mythological family dysfunction. Usually she's mentioned in stories as performing some minor service to the other gods. A cupbearer, or helping someone into a chariot. She married Herakles, though given the existence of the Heraclides I'm not certain that's the case here.

A CUPBEARER. For the Gods. who have been afflicted with some unknown malady. And has a grudge against Zeus.

There's something almost poetic about poisoned ambrosia.

If they have survived, and if this world survives, I suspect the muses will be very busy chronicling that tale.

And at this point I am certain we can ensure this world will survive.

Shifts in pantheons aren't pleasant, but I suspect the world can survive. In the end, gods need mortals more than the other way around.

But we can try to minimize the fallout.

Our duty, given the respective idioms at work here, is increasingly likely to be to prevent humanity's ruin and help ensure it's increasing control over their own affairs.

If the Titans are indeed trying to elect mortals to become gods, our task then becomes ensuring the new pantheon is properly vetted and endorsed, and that they choose to take on the divine mantle of their own will.

That sounds like the version where we do the least harm to the people here. Even setting aside the damn game.

... Oh for fuck's sake. She has reason to have a grudge against Zeus. ... I mean who doesn't, but still. If what I know about her is true here...

She got replaced by Ganymede when she tripped and her dress came down. Ganymede was one of Zeus' lovers.

Brilliant! And it took us THIS LONG to put it together! Ahhh, but we have the answer now. Thank you.

Look, every pantheon's got its problems, but Zeus is definitely A Problem. But... she's a cupbearer... I'd ask what could poison a god but if it's toxic or magical enough it could probably work. And I don't know how the gods here differ from the gods I know at home.

If we wanted to cure him, it would matter.

I don't think curing him is wise at this point. Perhaps some of the others? Hera does not, I think, deserve this, but his husband's mistakes are brought down upon her head as well.

But for the moment I am satisfied with our Poison X as the means. And what an incredible motive and opportunity. Dlanor would be delighted.

I'm pretty sure Zeus could find a reason to have a grudge against Zeus.

A slight like that could easily make her want to start off a new cycle.

I'm not so convinced that he doesn't already have one. But that's an entirely different topic.

It's not like most gods in any pantheon aren't petty enough to do something like that. But it depends on who they pick. Anyone in any kind of mental state that isn't 'pretty balanced' is probably going to just get worse as the years go on.

I guess that's where we come in. Making sure the right people end up in charge of highly desirable divine real estate.

Lucifer once used that as his ultimate act of vengeance.
