Immediately after the Jaunt

[Waking in a coffin, even one made of so flimsy a material as those dotting Liminal Space, had been disturbing enough. But the eyes. By all the gods and their assorted demons, the fucking eyes.

Those eyes raise a very important question.]

Did we somehow manage to fail that Jaunt in spite of our delightful hosts having a golden fucking opportunity to suck that world dry of everything they might have wanted, or has one of them simply decided to take cues on decor from horrors best left unconsidered?

[No, really, why is Liminal Space a fucking nightmare of eyeballs, and whose fault is it?]

I can't see them stopping at one, either.

[Honestly, Raidou would be hard-pressed not to do the same.]

They are.

[He takes another sip of his drink.]

I suppose it's good to be forewarned that they did something - if Magician had had her way, we would likely have ended up doing their work for them again, with no one the wiser until it was too late.

[Raidou considers that.]

It might actually have been more demoralizing for at least some of the Champions to find out that they'd been aiding the Arcana all along - although I think at least some of that is a problem inherent to Questing Country - but it almost certainly would have been less physically destructive.

She actually complained to Reiko about the cabochon, incidentally; she was rather indignant about it.

The division of roles being what it is probably doesn't help, either, especially given the general opinion of Adversaries. Treating them as failed Champions doesn't help anyone.

She thought her approach would have been easier and held less risk of whatever happened the last time they let "Penuel" run a heist.

They've set up so many Champions for failure, or what they'll see as failure, without even realizing it.

[Which is not familiar at all, oh no.]

She didn't say, but if it was this round, that seems like a strong possibility.

[He'd consider asking outright, but he's not sure Magician would tell him. His own Arcanum certainly wouldn't.]

Hopefully.

[He could see some of them breaking, too.]

She did at least try to ask more about Penuel, but Magician ignored the question.

Probably.

...Although at the time, she seemed more interested in getting Reiko to agree that her approach would have been better.

I don't think it's her primary idiom, but I think it's at least part of it.

She also mentioned something about them not wanting to give the "kid sister" access to the cookie jar, with herself being the kid sister in question.

...No.

[Raidou does the same, for the same reason.]

At this point, I think I'd be more surprised if we didn't go back.

[This sentiment is accompanied by another swig from his glass.]
