End of Week 3

We've finished the Sift of the Fractals. I want to thank everyone who helped us. What we uncovered was not unexpected. It's probably worse than many of us were hoping for.

[Thace sounds tired as he relays those thoughts.]

I will just put it on the network for anyone to investigate at their leisure. I didn't find any potentially infectious information in what we uncovered so it should be safe. Casper? I think now might be the time to use that Arcana skill. If anyone else has Arcana skills that help with coming up with or implementing plans, we welcome your advice.

Given what we've uncovered, I think Thetan's plan to write a new version of the dreaming software from scratch has become much more important. If anyone can help with that in any way, please meet with us in Hushabye meadow.

[Thace finishes by putting up the results onto the network.]

1) Every tessellation contains two fractals, calculated to interlock precisely. One of these fractals is unique to each tesselation, whereas the others are a repeated set of seven.

2) Each of the seven corresponds with one of the seven primary tenets of Orthopraxy.

3) Each of the unique ones has a unique association in each mind, within certain parameters.

4) Each unique fractal becomes associated with an audio stimulus,

5) Each audio stimulus is a complex recurring pattern which requires both memory and pattern recognition to decode;

6) Each complex recurring pattern then produces a pattern unique to it in the Synthetic system's heat management system

7) Those reactions are subtle but audible, visible, or tangible via vibration, air movement, or olfactory stimulus to the creatures around the Synthetic

8) Because the association of these patterns is strengthened by recurrence... they're not recurring dreams (or rather, they produce recurring dreams like a racial subconscious, but...), they're recurring memes.

9) And the fact that Synthetics and ships give off unique sensory stimuli detectable by organic beings when they're exposed to these memes means that the subliminal program is capable of transmission across the Synthetic-organic boundary. Every ship and synthetic plugged in can expose everyone they speak with, or who speaks around them, to the same subtle programming.

I know it's important to keep the element of surprise, but I've been hoping for a chance to warn everyone else that Aratta's Orthopraxy is up to shit. If I can warn and inspire the people there while helping with our own mission at the same time, that's even better.

[At this point the freedom to choose is exactly what the Heteropraxy on Aratta is trying to take away, so returning the power of choice to the people is a victory in itself regardless of what choices the people there make.]

We have to try. If we can get the word out, then someone, somewhere, might be willing to do something about it.

Hell, maybe even the Orthopraxy from other areas could want to put a stop to what's happening on Aratta. We'll never know unless we try.

I don't blame him. The core idea of the Orthopraxy is that people do best when they all come together to share their knowledge and skills, right? Which is why the Conductors work in Harmony. That, when freely chosen, isn't a bad thing at all. It's not the fault of anyone following the Orthopraxy that the people they'd trusted to be their leaders have betrayed them by twisting that idea into something else completely.

I won't count on them doing anything, but I also won't be completely surprised if they step in.

Of course not. That would be like blaming everyone in the Garrison for the one asshole Captain that gave the order to shoot me and my friends with a damn cannon after I turned into a Titan.

Excitement is one thing I can definitely promise.

I, uh. I mean, I'm not sure about that? But I try.

[There's a pause that's just long enough for him to clear his throat. Which doesn't translate to the Network, but does still help him to refocus a bit.]

When it's done I can write up a report and leave it in the library? Having a record of what actually happened isn't a bad idea. If this goes the way I hope the whole damn station will be talking about it, but rumors tend to get pretty exaggerated.

I make my own records after every Jaunt anyway. Old habit from when I was in my world's military. A more detailed report over just one thing won't be any trouble at all.

Besides, it'll give me something to focus on while I take a break. If I don't take a break after the mission one of my friends would probably come over to make me take one.

[There's a mental sigh that's only slightly dramatic.] Did you also get told breaks only count if you're sitting still? I'm good at flying breaks! I take flying breaks all the time. But I keep getting told those don't count!

I keep telling them my body can rest while I sleep, but they keep saying that doesn't count either.
