Watch out for Qabil when you get back. He's not going to make whatever it is we're planning easy to implement if it doesn't fall under his plans. He also has an ancient Cabalist in his head with him which has not done wonders for his mental state.

Fortunately - or unfortunately, depending on how you think about it - he and I share a relatively similar style of planning. If you're planning on confronting him, run it past me before you can't anymore.

He is very powerful in terms of psychic abilities due to being a Cabalist and his own... unique situation. He's also, for the record, the one who set the fire in the warehouse this past week.

Can you tell what the other guy knows about whatever we did last time?

Somewhat. He remembers the Portori being there, that they had strange Vale Arts he was unfamiliar with, and that some were involved in trying to steal a Hellstone from Protector Malion. They're remembered as martyrs, but he blames them somewhat for the events that followed - the hellstones being disturbed, the Nation-Eaters drawing up to devour things...

... He won't react terribly favorably to the 'Portori'. He's aware Anafiel is one, and he's made his displeasure known. He's absolutely prepared to kill any of you, because he's afraid you may attempt to become leaders instead of the ones he and the other Cabalists have picked.

Okay, two things. The simplest of which to ask is: what’s a hellstone?

Does Qabil know what Anafiel told his host about me? I’m honestly a bit nervous about that now, especially if I can’t make the expedition.

Somewhat. They haven't had much of a chance to touch base, and Qabil hasn't been rooting through Anaf's memories in a few nights.

Qabil already knew Hana's true identity. All of us of Cabal did. As for what I told Anaf of the rest--

That we Portori had reason to believe the Ghalib had made a cavosophia of Hana and he ought to tell Qabil of it--but by the time he did, Qabil had found out on his own.

Anaf is much more at ease with our presence than Qabil, something I attribute to my time as his shade, but equally to his initial interactions with Naoki. He does intend to see us used for Cabal's ends, but believes I can be swayed to sway the rest of you.

I have, at least, managed to persuade him that we have no interest in leading the Vale or remaining there.

He does not know how much access I have to his memories.

Thrasyllus on the other hand is not quite so convinced. He's a paranoid old man who wants the old days back and can't accept that they're gone.

What sorts of plans do he and/or his passenger have? What does he hope to get out of restoring Malion's line?

In general? Unite the Vale under one leader. Be the adviser behind the throne. Do the dirty deeds that need doing, so the leader need not sully their hands. Thrasyllus wants the Protectorate to return and has zero problems with cavosophia, but fortunately Qabil is a bit more moral and would prefer free will.

And, well. Where have I heard that before?

A somewhat similar situation to my home world, actually.

[Raidou doesn't know Naoya well enough to feel comfortable prying, but he does remember his announcement about being Cain.]

It does seem to be a conflict that comes up a lot, although methods obviously differ.

How delicate is the balance of power between Thrasyllus and Qabil?

At least it's not God this time.

Qabil has the physical power - Thrasyllus can't take over unless Qabil has vacated the body by astral tripping or something similar. He also has the ability to tell him no, but he's lived with a spirit in his head for over twenty years. The personality has... warped, somewhat. Not that he was ever cute and innocent, but there have been definite influences.

... He'll suspect something, but not know what. Anafiel still looks like Anaf, he hasn't gotten confirmation of other revivals yet, and he doesn't know that Travelers often look like their overlays.

But you can bet he'll reave you again.

Permission to fuck up his day if he does. I can't take him psychically, even with protection, but I can break his arm just fine.

He will absolutely retaliate, he might push harder, he may just try to track you down and poison you or slit your throat.

Though you can probably take some of that, but it doesn't mean he won't try to kill you or send someone else after you. He's more than willing to sacrifice some of Ghabil's cult.

... Both? He did see her more like a very adorable dog or something, but she's started rising in his estimation recently.

What changed?

Critical thinking skills, mostly. Thrasyllus lived in a time of... it wasn't science, but the psi technology was close enough in its own ways. So her developing more of the skills used in that time makes them both more inclined to be giving her praise.

I've been catching up on conspiracies my overlay missed while in Scatter-Spore. Setting aside any desire to kill this man, for the moment... What if there was a way to kill the ancient man inside him? How is it that he was placed there? He cannot be allowed to bring cavosophia back.

It's a technique known only to the Cabalists. They see flesh and psyche as separate. They can keep a few select psyches 'alive' even after their physical death - not a lot, but enough.

I'm not... certain how you would kill Thrasyllus without killing Qabil - and even then, it might just go back to the Cabalist's 'network'.

Thrasyllus is nothing but a psychic presence, correct?

Can he be targeted with psychic skills?

If so, Sever him from his Network.

That's an interesting thought. I'm not sure if it'd work - the Cabalists seem to have their own little 'pushed network of minds. It's worth a shot, though.

There may be a way to sever or partition Thrasyllus away, but those methods are only temporary.

Once, when I was in a Dungeon, the trapped person fought against their shadow, a representation of the dark parts of themself. Perhaps Qabil can be aided in a similar fashion.

Perhaps, though it's another mind and not truly part of his own, so I'm not certain how it would work. And that would require him to be willing to get rid of the other. While he's not always fond of the man's ideas, the two of them have a bond due to being together for so long. Hm.
