Wait. Shit. No. This isn't how my vision went. I'm not supposed to be Charoite again!

[That little speech comes almost immediately upon arriving in Questing Country. After that, Thorne is almost completely silent for the next couple hours. When she finally contacts the network again, she sounds much less upset. Tired and a little giddy, but not upset.]

Okay. So. I think I might have figured out how Empress managed to pull the Skittles out of people two years ago.

 Hey guys. So two things.

First, apparently the Oracles and everybody were worried about us after we left last time out of nowhere and so they tried to figure out what happened to us? Which is nice. It's nice they cared. So that's why they knew we were coming. Should we, like, figure out how much we should tell or just... go with it?

Second, if you're an Adversary, you might want to be careful. Apparently the earlier generation just started having those and think it's like a corruption or a 'fall' from Champion status and are being real dicks about the whole thing. Such as just binding their 'fallen Champions' and fighting them.

Ugh, okay I wasn't going to add to the flood of people talking about weird visions but there's this one bit of the one I saw that is really sticking with me.

The vision: A pair of dragons were fighting. They were WAY bigger than the ones you guys brought back. The smaller of the two was like the size of a bus. Then while I watch it all an evil tree spoke to me, saying something like "You aren't the only one who has a mascot!" Which, who knows what that means.

That's not the weird part.

The weird part is One of the dragons was using Liminal Portals.

[Private to *Hyun-ae]

Also being drunk is weird. Being hungover is terrible.

Hello. I... this is Imriel. I've agreed to help provide music at the Liminal Ball.

...I'll probably need help. I play guitar - if anyone wants to join me in making music, let me know and we can find a time to meet up and practice together. And if anyone has songs they're going to want to hear, let me know and I'll try to learn them.

[He feels like he should say something more, but after a long, uncertain moment decides against it. The entire post is a little stilted, with how unused to using the network Imriel is. He's not even used to hearing it - he generally mutes the entire thing, unless someone addresses him directly, and he's never made a post before. Still, he's trying.]

I learned how to teleport.

That's really cool but like, it's also kind of really dawning on me. Back home I was always going to be a C-lister at best, but being a traveler means I have the potential to get pretty dang powerful doesn't it?

So like. What kind of crazy stuff can you do with liminal manipulation? Or the psychic stuff? Can you teach me? I want to be stronger. I want to be someone who rescues people, not someone who gets rescued. Not combat training, I've got that under control. I mean freaky super power stuff.
thornsofmalkav: (chinhands)
[personal profile] thornsofmalkav
Okay, so. For a variety of reasons, including that me and Matthew have some rad new theories about the way that liminal space and the network actually work--as well the theoretical basis for a bitchin new skill category--I would like to invite everyone to a Salon. A Psychic-And-Liminal Salon.

But when I say Salon, I don't mind the kind you go to in order to get your hair done. I mean it in the old-fashioned sense, as a sort of intellectual party where everyone meets up to have snacks and swap theories and demonstrate cool shit they've found. It's something I've actually tried doing before in small groups? And both times went pretty well, so I think after the alpha and beta test Salons, I'm totally ready to make this an open thing.

Anyway, I'd host it in a created room and, like, make sure there's plenty of food and everyone could come over and swap ideas and new tricks--and any interesting information that people might have found out from these weird visions we've been getting these last couple liminal spaces.

I think what Yosuke said a few days ago, how since we've had past and sort-of-present visions in this liminal space that we're probably due for some future ones soon, is probably right. And because of that--and also because some of those past visions might have shown us pre-Moebius shit--I think it's definitely a good idea if people talk about things they've learned from them at the Salon.

Because of that, I don't want to hold it until at least after liminal space turns? Because then we could get some future visions in, like I said. But on the other hand, I'm not entirely sure if they'll dump us right into a Jaunt after we get to the Liminal Space Yet To Come, so I dunno if we can wait it out for the Salon? On the other hand, we do usually get a warning liminal before Jaunts where they hint at shit and give the noobs some time to flail around, so it might be better to bet on that happening and do the Salon then?

What do you guys think? Do it in the theoretical next liminal or bet we'll have a hint-filled one full of newbies after that and hold it then?

So, who all know the stories of Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come? Christmas isn't such a big deal in Japan, but our History teacher was insistent on us studying this particular story during the holiday season.

That's what I'm thinking about these past few Liminals. We all were able to see our past in the last one, right? Now it looks like we're getting alternative realities of our home worlds. So it's safe to assume that we'll have yet another Liminal... with our futures.

What do you think?

[And yes, his tone is a bit passive-aggressive thanks to what's going on right now, thank you very much.]

Hey, this is kind of a random and doesn't have anything to with anything recent but I want to test something out. For that I'd need three things.

1. Someone to make me unconcious (no hitting please)
2. Someone to try and contact me while I'm unconcious
3. Someone to wake up me up as well

Let's just say I may have found something interesting in the network. You'd see what if it works.

Of course, this could be something super old that I just haven't come across, but still kind of cool.

[And once he's out cold, an automatic message plays with his voice when you try to contact him.]

Testing... I figured I'd try prerecording a message. You know, like an answer machine? So if you're hearing this when I'm out of it, it looks like it works! Which is awesome. Who knows, maybe this can be set to all kinds of situations? Like 'In case I become an infiltrator'?

[And theen he's back a bit later.]

So, did it work?

I'm going to meet with some friends in Hajime-san's restaurant and explain what I can remember about Moebius.

Anyone who'd like to talk about it - who remembers anything, or who wants to learn more - is welcome to come.

Anyone who'd rather avoid disturbing discussions should probably make sure not to be there.

[Once again, Liminal Space is being subject to a livestream of Thorne making important announcements! This time, she’s in a library study room, with books and papers of her and a Malik-created map-in-progress hung up behind her--and the map in question seems to be to an unusual location indeed.

She is wearing a black pith helmet with a pink band.]

Hi! Thorne here, with Alcuin playing cameraman as usual. Once again, I’ve got some important discoveries to share with people, but in this case these discoveries were made by a group of us. In fact, I pretty much spent the entire expedition we went on recording everyone else’s data. But before I talk about what we found out, I should probably explain about the expedition.

If we make it all the way to our current Jaunt, there's a few movies left.

In that time, as long as we're discussing the new things we're learning about the Arcana, maybe we should review the old things, as well. There's a lot left out of these movies...

The Fool, who goes by Don Orlea, doesn't do a very good job asking questions, but he seems to be easy to speak to. He probably can't help not answering; his archetype doesn't know the answers.

The Magician, or ROSE, seems tricky but friendly. She managed to pretend to be a Traveler for most of a Jaunt. We know she's very close to SAGE, or Hermit, and that she cheated somehow when she took us to rescue him.

High Priestess is mysterious. She uses a lot of different names, and in Questing Country, she pretended to be someone's Spirit Companion.

Empress, or Mei, is mothering. She shows up frequently to check in, and she cares about how we're doing even if she doesn't understand it. Star matters to her, too.

Emperor, or Hakan Caesar, represents rules and order and fatherhood. He and Empress seem like a team, even though their archetypes disagree on a lot of things.

Hierophant is dead. I'm not sure how many of the details about that we know, but we had some theories I'm happy to discuss - unless anyone's heard anything definite now?

Lovers, or PSYCHE-chan, is allied with the Devil, and opposes Magician and Hermit. She shows up for weddings. She's friendly in a way, but it's because we're toys she likes to play with.

Chariot, or Cairbre, is about action, and doesn't talk much. They don't seem to be very good at disguising themself, either.

Strength, or Durga, seems to be pretty positive, but also doesn't talk much. I know that most of the people she's marked think pretty well of her.

Hermit, or SAGE, tried to leave the game once, and was captured by Lovers and Devil. We rescued him, but now he's a wolf.

Fortune, who won the last game, is dead now. Technically, it's Fortune's rules we're all playing by.

Justice is about clear decisions. We shouldn't expect Justice to take sides. I don't know much else about this version of the Arcana, and I don't want to make assumptions based on the card.

Hanged Man was so relaxed that he didn't seem to care about losing the game. He's also an Arcana that we know declined to Mark certain people. Some of them are more picky than others, and some are more greedy than others, and some care more about the rules. That's useful to know.

Death seems pretty straightforward and willing to talk, but has been involved in some past decisions that hurt Travelers badly. 'Death' in the Tarot deck means 'change,' so he's not as scary as you might think from the name.

Temperance is also dead.

Devil-san, or MALBOLGE, is most likely to abuse, mistreat, and punish Travelers, or to deliberately hurt other Arcana.

Tower represents violent change and disaster, and was pretty bad at pretending to be anyone else.

Star is dead.

Moon is tricky and untrustworthy - it seems like some Arcana know how to lie and some don't. I'm not sure Moon knows how to tell the truth.

Sun definitely doesn't lie. Apart from Death, Sun's probably told Travelers more than any other Arcana.

Judgment isn't an Arcana I have very much experience with, so I'm not sure what to say about them, except that they're usually positive in a deck of cards.

For me, it makes most sense to help Sun to win, if we're playing their game at all. But I'm sure other people have much more information than I do, and I might have gotten some things wrong. I'd like to hear what everyone else has learned about their Arcana, or what they think. We should probably discuss our theories, too, at some point.
papacerberus: (Exchange of ideas.)
[personal profile] papacerberus
At this point, there are some things we can confirm that have happened. Somehow the last Jaunt ended in a tie, and that Lovers was returned because of it. Before this, I briefly spoke on my belief that a single Arcana winning this game is not the best outcome, but I was unsure of the possibility of encouraging ties, and bringing back those who’ve been eliminated.

Now that both of those things have been confirmed, I think it’s time to open the discussion again.

My thoughts are this: That the Arcana are all important in their own ways, and for a truly balanced world, they should all be reflected equally. There are obstacles to this in that some of them have been killed, but Emperor confirmed that completing the game will bring the dead back. There are also obstacles in the fact that the Arcana themselves don’t seem aware or willing to consider the possibility of joint wins. Of course, to succeed, we would need to find a way to alter the rules, and gain the cooperation of at least one of the Arcana.

That last point I think should be the first step, but before I proceed, I wanted to hold a discussion. There may be things I’ve missed, or don’t have the experience to properly understand, and coming together to share ideas will make us stronger and more cohesive for it.

As...unpleasant as it may be to have our experiences distorted into entertainment, the summaries of the Jaunts some of us have missed are certainly useful.

[To say nothing of some of the secrets revealed.]

To that end, I would be willing to share my memories of the key events of our time in the two worlds that came before the start of this vid sequence - the Spark and our first visit to Belljar Island, for those familiar with early Traveler history. I am certain there are still a handful of written records circulating as well, for those who are curious about the events but do not want such an intimate familiarity with them.

This is Jean... K. I've been thinking and came up with an idea with the help of Feliciano.

I want to make a room in the Workshop that would host a painting gallery of Travelers. Not just of the ones we currently have, but also of the Travelers no longer with us. An example...

[He shows a painting he's painted that shows a very accurate portrait of Leonardo with a white lion by his side. Next to that painting is a painting of Mikasa and Eren.]

Your part in this would just include sitting as a model for either me or Feliciano or provide a memory or a picture of past Travelers. Of course, you can always say no and we won't pester you about it.

I just want us to be able to remember our fellow comrades now and in the future. So please consider this idea.

And I guess if you just want a painting to decorate your room, that can be arranged too.

I'm a bit concerned about the timing of this given that we haven't been back in Liminal Space for very long, but apparently I also came away from Harrogate with prophetic dreams, and this one seems... oddly Liminal-focused.

It featured an overly gaudy gilt-and-velvet theatre, mostly decorated in red and black. Travelers who sat in the general seating area were immediately handcuffed in place, although they could be freed with assistance from another Traveler. The box seats contained spinning beds like the one in Lovers' area during the extended Liminal stay prior to the start of phase three, and the onstage "entertainment" consisted of reenactments of Jaunt events using Traveler-shaped puppets on golden chains. There was also music, but I can't identify it - I think it might be some kind of Western classical music.

I can share the memory if anyone wants to see or hear it for themselves; I just didn't want to get the melody stuck in anyone's heads without warning.

[For those who take him up on this offer, this is the musical accompaniment.]

hatefuldays: (What are our options)
[personal profile] hatefuldays
This is *Hyun-ae again! Sorry I wasn't really able to contribute anything to the Jaunt, but it sounds like things turned out pretty well.

So, I was thinking about how all of us were apparently taken from various worlds or alternate universes, and was wondering: Do we have any sort of compiled list of what worlds we've discovered? Liminal Space and Jaunts are both crazy, but there's a whole extra layer of this experience where we're basically all getting a chance to discover dozens of other worlds and universes through each other! We can't see them directly, but there's still got to be plenty of interesting stuff we can learn just by talking about where we're from and how those places differ or how they're the same.

I was going to follow that up with "so let's assemble a list of all those worlds and what we know about them", but the more I think about it, the harder it seems like it's going to be to even figure out where to start. Like, for example, I know we've got a lot of people from "Earth" or some variant of it, so how can we tell which ones are parallel Earths and which ones are the same planet? It gets even hairier when you factor in that there's different periods of time represented, so saying "this person and that person are from the same Earth/different Earths" is practically impossible most of the time.

So as a compromise, if any part of this sounds useful, interesting, or cool, tell us a bit about where you're from! It's not like there's too much for us to be doing while we're stuck in Liminal Space, so why not? I don't have a specific format in mind, but maybe some basics like...

* Homeworld name
* Other people you know are from the same world as you (to keep this organized)
* Local year when you left
* Whether or not you know what Disney is (this seems to be some kind of divide, at least for Earths)

I'll go first! I'm from the Mugunghwa, which is a generation ship sent from Earth to another planet where it was going to start a new colony. The trip was on the order of thousands of years long, so in between, the ship was basically its own isolated society. My situation's a little complicated timeline-wise, but it was 4989 AD when I was warped here, which might or might not be why I've never heard of Disney before. Magic and monsters don't exist (as far as I know), but it seems like our tech was pretty advanced compared to most people I've talked to - space travel tech has gotten pretty advanced by the 60th century, and human-comparable AI is a thing.

...If I'm going to talk about the ship for culture exchange purposes, I guess I should probably talk at least a little about what happened in the later years of the ship's society... So, I spent a very long time in cryostasis and accordingly don't have a firsthand account of what happened, but a few millenia after the ship's voyage began, there was a coup and a family managed to instate themselves as a new royal family. They blamed a bunch of things they did on rebels as an excuse to take more power for themselves, and pushed society back to Joseon Dynasty ideals - stability, strength of family lines, male superiority. A couple hundred years down the road, you end up in a world where scientific research is dead in the water and women aren't allowed to learn how to read.

...Eesh, sorry to end that on a dark note. But, well, that's how it was, and why I'm so glad to be here now. There's probably some kind of fancy moral you could come up with to summarize the whole incident, but I'm honestly not far enough away from it to look at it objectively and come up with one, so I guess I'll leave that to you.

[ Private to Malin ]

Status report! It took a while, but I managed to get the hang of making portals! A couple other things, too - I experimented a bit, and I can psychically change outfits and stuff. It's still so wild that this is just something I can do by thinking about it.

Thanks for all your training~

Today I was told that some of you could pull objects out of thin air, and that I could eventually learn those same skills.

Now that we have had some time to relax after the events of Harrowgate, I have some ideas about how to improve our responses as infiltrators to situations.

For those of you who are newly joining us, greetings and apologies for what will likely be uncomfortable discussions. The previous Jaunt was… not a good one for many of us despite the successful outcome.

We, as a group, need to get better at talking about what happens to us on Jaunts, no matter how emotionally difficult it is. I understand not wanting to think or talk about a traumatic event, but talking about it allows others to avoid the same situation in the future. Avoiding something doesn't make it unhappen or stop existing.

We have people, including myself, who know how to keep to facts and events when relaying information to prepare others. I cannot speak for them, but if you wish to use my services my door is always open and I will not think lesser of anyone for finding it difficult to speak openly.

Which brings me to my second suggestion, and the reasons I see for it.

We need a better system for gathering information and taking action as investigators. Running headfirst in to something without a plan keeps getting people arrested, killed or worse.

I know that dying may not be as bothersome to some of us as it is others, but it is not a pleasant or always acceptable price for information.

What I propose is that we put together a dedicated response team of investigators willing and able to follow an actual plan and work in coordination for gathering information in sensitive or dangerous situations as well as extracting those who get in over their heads.

Powers beyond use of the mental network that I believe would be beneficial or crucial to this are teleportation, shapeshifting, interface, summoning Travelers, portal creation, and some sort of healing knowledge. Nobody needs to have all of them, but a few or a willingness to learn them would be good.

Stealth and combat skills can be taught, but most important will be an ability to take and follow orders of whomever is taking point as coordinator for the jaunt based on their knowledge and experience as well as put aside personal opinions and egos for the sake of a greater good.

I know that we have no idea who will or won't be themselves on Jaunts but if there are enough people in this Response Squad, for lack of a better name, then the odds are that at least a few will be themselves and able to act.

...and yes, this is a request for volunteers, regardless of your personal opinions of me or other Travelers.

If you wish to speak with me privately about this, my door is open through the Workshop Library.

It is now or never. We must do all that we can to protect these towns. I should like to organize groups to inscribe or paint sigils and protective runes and any other useful protections across as many of the buildings in town as physically possible. Protective charms against intrusions of the mind, especially. The eyes have come, and that is where everything took a terrible turn for the worse the last time.

Who has knowledge of things which might assist here, or would be willing to help in the purchase or application of materials? We must act quickly.

Those of you with deeper knowledge of the horrors - the fountain in the sinkhole before the theater. If it is similar to the ones which appeared in liminal space so long ago, it may be that it can be stopped up using the same sigil that was left there before the Priestess erased the entrance. We have no valence with which to do that, but we might be able to seal it.
