Ah. Um. Lyall here, infiltrating as the biology professor here, but I'm also myself. If anyone has any questions about this place, as I am also a local, I can do my best to answer them. The biggest thing I suppose is that there's magic here, and the fae folk. Don't call them that, they get touchy.

Also, I need to ask, is anyone else having trouble opening a portal to liminal space? I, er, I can't seem to get in.

[If this were not text, it would be obvious just how alarmed and nervous he is by this.]

If anyone would be so kind as to stop by my classroom and see if I can use their portal, I would greatly appreciate it.

How do you teach someone that came with you from a world we visited to be able to access the network?

Also: If in the future anyone notices that I am infiltrated and Saffron [and here comes a brief succession of full-sensory depictions of the girl in her four different forms] is not and they can do so, please de-infiltrate me.

Pardon, everyone, it's Lyall again. But I thought people might like to hear about my conversation with Judgment, our current Jaunt winner. They were kind enough to bring me into their conversation space for a little while, though I am not sure they will do it again. They weren't particularly pleased with me, by the end.

I asked about the conditions for winning, first, and about why Fool considered her dangerous to leave intruding Travelers with. The first answer was fairly straight-forward: there weren't enough "new beginnings", and everyone moved on with what they learned rather than change things up, I suppose. Their exact words were that the various crises "were resolved within the bounds available, rather than forged into new beginnings."

They were less forthcoming about the dangerous part. I believe they did not consider themselves dangerous, they said they would merely "dismiss" Thorne and Matthew, but they... hesitated in a rather human sort of way before answering. I'm fairly sure that didn't mean they were lying... but they could have been reluctant to reply, or uncertain of a proper response, or else dancing about the truth a bit. Said they would just "dismiss" Thorne and Matthew, but not the method they would have used. They are apparently concerned with us staying in our roles, because "taking action" beyond our roles and "exploiting" our roles, is what killed Fortuna and Hoshiko-- Fortune and Star, I believe, yes?

I know there have been discussions about their deaths, but I had been under the impression that it had been less an issue of anything we did and more an issue of their particular idioms waning too much to sustain them. Am I remembering it wrong, was there some sort of action on our part that was taken to bring about their deaths?

I'm willing to share the memory of the conversation, if anyone wants it. It was a bit frustrating. Like they wanted me to understand them without them ever actually explaining themselves.

In another round of probing the network's capabilities, I think I've found a way to just... leave information available on the network without actually having to hunt through a million conversations to get to the useful stuff. It still needs some testing, but I can't imagine the range of skills to pull the information off the network is all that big - but more important, at least right now, is what I'm planning to leave there.

The most immediately useful thing I could think of was basic information about the Arcana, to help people who aren't tarot-conversant catch up a little. I've put a lot together based on what's been discussed before, but there are still gaps in my knowledge.

If anyone knows anything about what Magician, Priestess, Lovers, Strength, Hermit, Devil, Moon or Sun plan to do if they win, I'd really appreciate having that on the list. Empress and Emperor too - all I could find in reviewing older stuff was that they agreed to do the same thing if either of them wins. I know a couple of them are out of competition at the moment, but considering Lovers has already staged a comeback, I'd rather set this up like any of them could win.

I also couldn't find anything about Tower and Justice's personalities, or whether Hierophant or Star had another name.

Hey everyone, Ambrose here. Couple of things: I ran an interface on one of the eyeball-cloud things and they're not just decorative, they're looking for folks doing stuff to liminal space they're not supposed to do. Or more like shouldn't be able to do. FY-eye.

[ that probably won't come across but he thinks it's punny. ]

Second: remember before last jaunt when I was thinking we could use a steam-blowing informal dance-club party with like... small-S singing and dancing and having a good time? I still think we could use one of those, just need a venue.

I'll bring the karaoke machine.

[Before the rebellion, before liminal space changes, Matthew speaks to the network]

We have information to share.

First: This is Fool and Judgement's jaunt. They're still in liminal space, by the way. It's all the other ones that are in the jaunt, being a giant rock. They are, according to Fool, pursuing a 'possibility'. One that has 'a chance to restore many worlds whose possibilities have been forever lost' to them. Don't ask me what that means beyond that; Fool's allergic to answering questions and Judgement is a prissy bitch.

I believe that to pursue this possibility, they are draining the dreamworld of it's power, and stealing it's secrets. Fucking the place up in the process is apparently an unintended side effect. [and why yes, Matthew does indeed sound rather dry when he says this particular point. Someone is not impressed.]

We also have reason to believe that whatever is behind the Starquakes, they are...similar, but not the same, as the Arcana. Something on the same scale, perhaps. Or perhaps the Arcana are also more like places than people. Or maybe they all just really like fucking up this place! Seems to be common theme at this point, really.

So I've been keepin' an eye on the cabochon space we done discovered earlier, an' I noticed it's changin' up a little.

[There's a brief memory supplied then, of said changes: the sensation of another person in the room gets ignored completely in favour of the ring of windchimes in the air, that seems to get sharper when Kinji's attention turns to the lightning - but, oddly, they almost sound more like harpstrings; and there's a sense of motion underfoot that his fellow subspace divers will recognise as being a right bit faster than before.]

An' I'm wonderin' now if we can't do somethin' t'disrupt it. Cos whatever this is, Altaïr's readin' it as an enemy, it's where the Glatisant done spawned from, an' when some a' that lightnin' got loose it tore a hole in the world an' started spawnin' Nightmares. It ain't good.

Has anyone other than myself noticed that Liminal Space has not changed since we got here?

Generally it goes through at least one or two changes, but this time, nothing has happened.

Can someone who was here before tell me if this happened last time, or is this something completely different?

That aside, if anyone wishes to step away from the chaos, my rooms are, as always, open.

[A little while after the mass alarm and confusion from the spirits, Lyall speaks up on the network.]

I know we had more prophetic nightmares before the Jaunt began than any of us would have liked to see... but I'm afraid I have a new vision to share, as well. My visions are not metaphorical in any way, they are actual glimpses of possible futures, though they can be forestalled if we do the right things. At some point, liminal space will change to look like a network of docks and boardwalks on a sea of clouds... and it will glitch. All the colors turn to black, and a burning boat approaches the platforms.

I think it may be invaded by some outside force. I can't think of what else would cause a glitch like that.

I can share the memory, if anyone wants to see it directly.

So, I have an idea for dealing with one of the Glatisants, and a question.

First, the plan. Found out helping Shinji - that’s Mech Pilot Shinji, not Has A Persona Shinji - that my ANIMa, at least in Questing Country, is still just as tall as it needs to be to fight monsters. So I’m going to the future to try and talk down that one, and failing that, wrestling with it on our terms.

Second, I warned the Fool about the whole time spiral thing that Me From Questing Country and Adult Probably Oracle-of-Anchors Me told Present Me to warn the Arcana about, and wow, I hate Time Shenanigans.

He thanked me and told me he’d also warn ROSE, Mei, SAGE, and Shekinah. I asked which ones quote “Rider and Waite” unquote would say those are and he grinned and was like “Who and what? Eh, you like questions, figure it out.” I know who SAGE is and precisely zero of the others, so... who would Rider and Waite say they are?

So, I know we have out hands full on Glatisant as it is, but I'd like to address something.

Many of you have likely heard about the war going on in one of the eras. Specifically the one in the past. I've talked to Thace's overlay about it and decided that I'm going to try and help design a few things to help them, since I can't go there and build stuff.

Then I started thinking... there's the ability to share your body with an overlay, right? I've heard about it-- even if I don't have the skills for that yet-- and it had me wondering. What happens when your overlay wakes up in the Waking Worlds? If I remember right, at least one of us was using this ability when we came here...

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but it would be great to gather information from the era itself.

Alright.

So ... I ain't gotta tell anyone where we are this time, and from the stuff people were sayin' on the network, returning here ain't the biggest surprise anyone's ever had. Even if we did get the red carpet bit... Yeah, this is Questing Country - magical kinda Liminal Space dreamland. The Oracles over at the table are the best guys to ask about what this place is.

But I figure we still need to work out who is and isn't actually us. Except, uh. Wash.

[That was psychic shouting and his ears are still ringing from it somehow, OK.]

So this is Kanji checking in. Give us a yell if you're hearing this? How you're doing, all that stuff. Or if you've got powers up and goin' here... anyone else been species switched, too?

...But, uh. If you see a guy who looks like my plain Hecatite form, that ain't me. That's my old overlay, and I think he wanted his powers back or something. Hell if I know what mine are right now.

This is *Hyun-ae again! Sorry I wasn't really able to contribute anything to the Jaunt, but it sounds like things turned out pretty well.

So, I was thinking about how all of us were apparently taken from various worlds or alternate universes, and was wondering: Do we have any sort of compiled list of what worlds we've discovered? Liminal Space and Jaunts are both crazy, but there's a whole extra layer of this experience where we're basically all getting a chance to discover dozens of other worlds and universes through each other! We can't see them directly, but there's still got to be plenty of interesting stuff we can learn just by talking about where we're from and how those places differ or how they're the same.

I was going to follow that up with "so let's assemble a list of all those worlds and what we know about them", but the more I think about it, the harder it seems like it's going to be to even figure out where to start. Like, for example, I know we've got a lot of people from "Earth" or some variant of it, so how can we tell which ones are parallel Earths and which ones are the same planet? It gets even hairier when you factor in that there's different periods of time represented, so saying "this person and that person are from the same Earth/different Earths" is practically impossible most of the time.

So as a compromise, if any part of this sounds useful, interesting, or cool, tell us a bit about where you're from! It's not like there's too much for us to be doing while we're stuck in Liminal Space, so why not? I don't have a specific format in mind, but maybe some basics like...

* Homeworld name
* Other people you know are from the same world as you (to keep this organized)
* Local year when you left
* Whether or not you know what Disney is (this seems to be some kind of divide, at least for Earths)

I'll go first! I'm from the Mugunghwa, which is a generation ship sent from Earth to another planet where it was going to start a new colony. The trip was on the order of thousands of years long, so in between, the ship was basically its own isolated society. My situation's a little complicated timeline-wise, but it was 4989 AD when I was warped here, which might or might not be why I've never heard of Disney before. Magic and monsters don't exist (as far as I know), but it seems like our tech was pretty advanced compared to most people I've talked to - space travel tech has gotten pretty advanced by the 60th century, and human-comparable AI is a thing.

...If I'm going to talk about the ship for culture exchange purposes, I guess I should probably talk at least a little about what happened in the later years of the ship's society... So, I spent a very long time in cryostasis and accordingly don't have a firsthand account of what happened, but a few millenia after the ship's voyage began, there was a coup and a family managed to instate themselves as a new royal family. They blamed a bunch of things they did on rebels as an excuse to take more power for themselves, and pushed society back to Joseon Dynasty ideals - stability, strength of family lines, male superiority. A couple hundred years down the road, you end up in a world where scientific research is dead in the water and women aren't allowed to learn how to read.

...Eesh, sorry to end that on a dark note. But, well, that's how it was, and why I'm so glad to be here now. There's probably some kind of fancy moral you could come up with to summarize the whole incident, but I'm honestly not far enough away from it to look at it objectively and come up with one, so I guess I'll leave that to you.

[ Private to Malin ]

Status report! It took a while, but I managed to get the hang of making portals! A couple other things, too - I experimented a bit, and I can psychically change outfits and stuff. It's still so wild that this is just something I can do by thinking about it.

Thanks for all your training~

Lyall suggested that we should connect our rooms, so that one doesn't have to step out into Liminal to get to the next one, and it seems like a good idea to me. What do you think? [He doesn't necessarily approve of the others' permanent rooms, but he does approve of strengthening pack bonds, and that definitely would help in that regard.]

Also, [and in many ways this is the more important and serious question] me and the little one have been talking, and we've agreed that she should be one of us. I can perform the Ashina ritual for it [as fucking weird as that whole concept of turning someone into a werewolf is; but with his adopted daughter, it just seems right, and she might be the only one for whom it might seem right to him, ever], but I would like for all of you to be present. It was a festive family event for Bogdan. [And he feels like that is a good way of treating it. After all, something major and exciting is happening, and he hopes that this will work towards having her adopted into the pack, too. She's already bonded with himself, Lyall, Hajime and Ryo, that's only two members off, anyway, even though dragon bonding isn't pack bonding. But it should be another step towards it.]

Dragons? Really?

[As far as tone is distinguishable on the network, that's muttered, and very, very frustrated - but anyone who remembers Misericordia probably understands. When Naoki resumes, it's at a much more normal volume and tone.]

Anyway, we might as well get a check-in going. This is Naoki. We are definitely not in Harrogate, unless something went very, very wrong with Earth's climate since the last time.

If it turns out we're missing a substantial chunk of people, I can try reaching out to the others later this week.
leftbehindagain: (you thought about exploring the TV world)
[personal profile] leftbehindagain
I wouldn’t normally offer some of this on a wide scale, but if Harrogate’s looking likely, we need to be as well-armed for it as we can. I can also help with explaining how to de-infiltrate people, and if anyone wants help improving their mental defenses I can do that too.

It might also be helpful to have more people who can punch through network barriers – for one thing, there’s the chance they’ll split the group again, and for another, we’ve had network barriers on the same jaunt before. If it happened in Achaia, it could happen again here.

Bridging network gaps works about once a week, and de-infiltrating people… I’ve only ever managed it once on a given jaunt. I’m not sure if that’s a hard limit or if I just didn’t have cause to, but it’d be better to have as many possible openings for de-infiltration as we can get.

Considering some of the suspicions regarding the possible nature of our next Jaunt destination, it seems that it would be wise to remind everyone - and to inform those who have had very little experience with Traveling - that it is possible to learn how to shield your thoughts from outside intrusion. It may not be perfectly effective against intrusion originating outside the Network, but should provide some protection, and will help insulate your mind against your fellow Travelers. I would be willing to teach the method to anyone who has not yet had the chance to learn it, though I will warn you that some facility with telepathic communication is usually necessary to put the concepts into practice.

There are also methods by which psychic damage can be eased, and potentially fully healed, though it is not a simple process. I have some experience with this, and I believe there are several others who have practice in the techniques as well, if they are willing to identify themselves in case anyone requires aid, whether now or in the future.

[Early in the day - well before her own abduction - Allura's voice comes across the network, the pattern of her thought-speech quick, but oddly lacking inflection.]

Given recent events, I think it's time we work out just which of our patrons is hosting this Jaunt, and whether or not we can allow their preferences to dictate how we go about freeing those who've been captured.

Does anyone have any insight into which of the Arcana are playing this round?

Or into the security measures we're likely to see at the detainment facility?
